Orange belt 7th Kyu

 

  7th KYU - ORANGE BELT

 

Experience needed - minimum of 3 months and 20 lessons from your last grading and your instructors approval before taking this grading. 

Pass Mark - 55.

 

RENRAKU WAZA (Combination techniques).

 

1. Yoi - Zenkutsu dachi kamae - step - Jodan oi zuki - Chudan gyaku zuki - Guard. 

Step forward into forward stance guard - step and punch to the head - then reverse punch to the body using opposite hand - Guard.

See notes A & C. 

 

2. Yoi - Naihanchi dachi kamae (sideways on) - Surikomi - Chudan ushiro mawashi geri - Jodan mae tobi geri - Land zenkutsu dachi - Guard - Return to kamae.

Parallel Stance (feet turned inwards) sideways on guard - step behind leading leg - Hook kick to the body - Land forward stance - jumping kick to the head using same leg - land in forward stance - Guard - Return to kamae.

3. Yoi - Naihanchi dachi kamae - Step back at 45 degree angle into neko ashi dachi  - Guard - step forward into neko ashi dachi - Jodan shuto uchi uke - return to Yoi.

Parallel stance (feet turned inwards) guard - Step back at 45 degree angle into cat stance - Guard - Step forward into cat stance - Knife hand strike to side of the neck - Return to kamae.

4. Yoi - Zenkutsu dachi kamae - Jodan sekkyaku zuki - Chudan gyaku zuki - Guard.

Step forward into forward stance guard - half step and punch to the head - complete step into leaning forward stane - Reverse punch to the body using opposite hand - Guard.

See Note A.

 

KATA

5. Pinan Shodan. Forward Facing.

    Pinan Shodan. Rear Facing.

 

MAKIWARA WAZA - Pad work using one pad holder (Left & Right side).

6. (Tsuki) Oi zuki - Guard. Stepping punch and Guard.

7. (Keri)  Mawashi geri.  Roundhouse kick.

 

8. Ippon Kumite. Chudan oi zuki - Demonstrate two different defences against opponents attacking with right hand punch to the body, Left & right side. Student's choice of defence. Defender and Attacker to start in zenkutsu dachi kamae.

 

9. Hokei Kumite 1, 2 - to be individually performed in both Left & Right side.

 

10.  Jiyu Kumite - Free style sparring.

 

NOTES:

A. 1 & 4.  To be performed advancing towards the examinar and then after turning (mawatte) performed moving away from the examinar.

 

B. 2.  To be performed sideways on to the examinar.

 

C. 1 & 3. To be performed in both Left & Right side.

 

Useful Japanese terms to learn from this grading :

Ushiro mawashi geri - Hook kick.

Mae tobi geri - Jumping kick.

Neko ashi dachi - Cat stance

Sekkyaku zuki - Half step & punch.

Mia shimi waza - Strangulation.

Jiyu kumite - Light free sparring.

Nukite (from kata) - Knife hand strike.

 

8th Kyu yellow belt

 

 

8th KYU -  YELLOW BELT

 

 

Experience Needed: Minimum of 3 months and 20 lessons from your last grading and your instructors approval before taking this grading. Marks out of 10 are awarded for each technique.

Pass Mark - 55.

 

 RENRAKU WAZA (Combination Techniques).

 

1.Yoi - Naihanchi dachi kamae - Chudan zuki - Then same hand jodan uraken zuki (Left & Right side).

Parallel stance (feet turned inwards) guard - Punch to body - Then back fist strike of head using same hand. See Note D.

 

2. Yoi - Zenkutsu dachi kamae - Leading hand gedan berai - Then step and punch jodan oi zuki (Left & Right side).

Step forward into forward stance guard - Leading hand downward sweeping block to lower body area - Then step and punch to head using opposite hand. See Notes A & D.

 

3. Yoi - Naihanchi dachi kamae - Step back at 45 degree angle into shiko dachi - Strike gedan shuto uke - Return to kamae.

Parallel stance (feet turned inwards) guard - step back at 45 degree angle into horse riding stance - Strike open hand to lower body area - return to kamae. See Notes A & D.

 

KERI WAZA (Kicking techniques - Left & Right side).

 

4. Chudan yoko geri kekomi.

Side thrust kick to the body. See Note B.  

5. Chudan ushiro geri.

Back kick to the body. See note C.

 

 KATA

6. Pinan Nidan Kata. Forward Facing

    Pinan Nidan Kata. Rear Facing

10. Hokei kumite No. 1 & 2 - To be individually performed in either left or right fighting stance. Students choice of defence.

 

NOTES:

 

A. 2. To be performed advancing towards the examinar and then after turning (mawatte) performed moving away from the examinar.

 

B: 4. To be performed side ways on to the examinar.

 

C. 5. To be performed with the back to the examinar kicking directly backwards (no spin)

 

D. 1, 2, & 3. To be performed in both Left & Right side.

Uraken zuki - Back fist.

Gedan barai - Downward block.

Shiko dachi - Horse riding stance.

Shuto uke - Open hand block / strike.

Yoko geri kekomi - Side thrust kick.

9th KYU - RED BELT

 

Experience needed: Minimum 10 lessons.

Pass Mark 40.

 

RENRAKU WAZA (Combination Techniques)

 

1. Yoi - Naihanchi dachi kamae - Chudan zuki. (Left & Right side)

Parallel stance (feet turned inwards) guard - Punch to body. See Note D.

 

Yoi - Nainhanchi dachi kamae - Jodan maeken zuki. (Left & Right side)

Parallel stance (feet turned inwards) guard - Front/ leading hand punch to the head. see Note D.

 

3. Yoi - Zenkutsu dachi kamae - Jodan oi zuki. (Left & Right side)

Step forward into forward stance guard - Step and punch to the head. See Note A & D.

 

4. Yoi - Zenkutsu dachi kamae - Gedan barai.

Step forward into forward stance guard - Step and block using downward block to protect lower body using the same hand as the leading leg, i.e. step and lan with right foot forward, block with right hand. See Note B & D.

 

5. Yoi - Zenkutsu dachi kamae - Jodan age uke.

Step forward into forward stance guard - Step and block using upward rising block to protect the head using the same hand as the leading leg, i.e. step and land with right foot forward, block with right hand.

KERI WAZA (Kicking techniques - Left & Right side).

 

6. Chudan mae geri keage. Front Snap Kick to the body. See Note B & D.

 

7. Chudan mawashi geri. Roundhouse kick to the body. See Note B & D.

Maekin zuki - Guard arm punch/ same hand.
