9th KYU - RED BELT

 

Experience needed: Minimum 10 lessons.

Pass Mark 40.

 

RENRAKU WAZA (Combination Techniques)

 

1. Yoi - Naihanchi dachi kamae - Chudan zuki. (Left & Right side)

Parallel stance (feet turned inwards) guard - Punch to body. See Note D.

 

Yoi - Nainhanchi dachi kamae - Jodan maeken zuki. (Left & Right side)

Parallel stance (feet turned inwards) guard - Front/ leading hand punch to the head. see Note D.

 

3. Yoi - Zenkutsu dachi kamae - Jodan oi zuki. (Left & Right side)

Step forward into forward stance guard - Step and punch to the head. See Note A & D.

 

4. Yoi - Zenkutsu dachi kamae - Gedan barai.

Step forward into forward stance guard - Step and block using downward block to protect lower body using the same hand as the leading leg, i.e. step and lan with right foot forward, block with right hand. See Note B & D.

 

5. Yoi - Zenkutsu dachi kamae - Jodan age uke.

Step forward into forward stance guard - Step and block using upward rising block to protect the head using the same hand as the leading leg, i.e. step and land with right foot forward, block with right hand.

KERI WAZA (Kicking techniques - Left & Right side).

 

6. Chudan mae geri keage. Front Snap Kick to the body. See Note B & D.

 

7. Chudan mawashi geri. Roundhouse kick to the body. See Note B & D.

  

KATA 

 

8. Shihozuki. Rear Facing

8. Shihozuki. Forward Facing.

 

 

NOTES:

A. 3. To be performed advancing towards the examinar and then after turning (mawatte) performed moving away from the examinar.

 

B. 4 & 5. To be performed advancing towards the examinar and then without turning step back facing the examinar.

 

C. 7. To be performed sideways onto the examinar.

 

D. 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5. To be performed in both Left & Right side.

 

Useful Japanese terms to learn at this level:

Yoi stance - Parallel stance

Zenkutsu dahi kamae - Forward Stance

Jodan - Jaw area

Chudan - Body area

Gedan - Below the belt

Zuki - Punch (eg Chudan zuki - body punch / Jodan zuki - jaw punch)

Oi zuki - step and punch.

Maekin zuki - Guard arm punch/ same hand.
